Constituents

Eugenol, ursolic acid, rosmarinic acid, apigenin, myretenal, luteolin, β-sitosterol, and carnosic acid. 

Medicinal use

Orally, holy basil is used for the common cold, influenza, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, obesity, asthma, bronchitis, otitis media, headache, dyspepsia, fever, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and stress. It is also used for mercury toxicity, and as a mosquito repellent.
Topically, holy basil is used for tinea corporis, gingivitis, and dental plaque.
