About Studium
An interplay between science, art & spirit.
-
Founder & formulator Gabriella Abell holds a BHSc Naturopathy (Herbal & Nutritional Medicine) degree (learn more/book in here). Studium began with a fascination with plants (namely aromatherapy) & their ability to shape our olfactory memory in 2018. From there, the small botanical perfume collection grew into a holistic, herbal skin & body line which was informed by her own experience with cystic acne & herbal medicine background. Studium was born out of a personal need, but also a curiosity to learn & share; a touchstone one could use daily to connect to plants & their magic. To apply the science of cosmetic chemistry, the art of blending/ manufacturing & the spirit of the plants.
-"Sometimes I wish I could photosynthesise so that just by being, just by shimmering at the meadow's edge or floating lazily on a pond, I could be doing the work of the world while standing silent in the sun...plants have been on the earth far longer than we have been, and have had time to figure things out...Plants make food & medicine from light & water, and then they give it away.”

SUSTAINABILITY
All products are made with two sets of hands, under one roof on the east coast of NSW, Australia. Each & every ingredient is relentlessly researched before making its way into a final product. It is then formulated & reformulated (a tedious job often with more set backs than expected) until it is just right. Common plants - mostly 'weeds' that grow prolifically are used in our infusions & extractions - we are not on a mission to source rare, forbidden earth materials in the name of luxury or exclusiveness. The earth simply cannot afford to give them away. We use essential oils sparingly. All extracts & infusions are made by us & infused the 'slow way' for at least one moon cycle to ensure a broad spectrum of therapeutic benefits. Our dried herbs are sourced from a Certified Organic growers network nationally & internationally. All our herbal by-product waste is composted. We make in small batches to uphold product freshness, quality & vitality. Our biophotonic glass bottles are sourced from family run, multi-generational glass makers from Germany & The Netherlands. Our labels are printed in Milton, QLD. Our shipping boxes are manufactured in Australia from recycled cardboard. Our custom packing tape is printed in Melbourne & made from vegetable based adhesives, is non-toxic and 100% recyclable. Our shipping provider is carbon neutral, using the Climate Active program.
When Gab isn't mixing potions, making skincare or seeing patients, you'll probably find her reading, creating in the kitchen or rock climbing/ hiking/ camping.
